Unfortunately, I misplaced the before pictures of this makeover, but I’m pretty sure most of you have seen Chippendale -style chairs of this type. Almost always a deep mahogany color, they are stately and classical.
Considering furniture trends, we knew it was time to give this classic reproduction chair a little twist, and what better way to shake things up than to transform with Barcelona Orange Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan.
Some projects can be done with one generous coat of paint, some two coats, and occasionally, as in this instance, we would rather do three thin coats. Covering deep mahogany that has lots of carvings can be tricky if you aren’t going for a crusty finish. So, take your time, do light coats, and you’ll find it easier to keep the carvings crisp.
The steps on this project: Barcelona Orange, followed by a Graphite wash, followed by a light wash of a custom Emperor’s silk / Barcelona Orange mix and then highlights of Renaissance Gold gilding wax.
We can only hope Thomas Chippendale would approve.
